...besides being the intro music for Coast to Coast A.M., its' also the proverbial theme to the movie "Midnight Express"...and a good tune to boot!

Serious Lack Of Discernment...

Experience is the oracle of truth; and where its responses are unequivocal, they ought to be conclusive and sacred. - Alexander Hamilton & James Madison, Federalist No. 20 — 1787

Seared Music: Queensryche - "Operation Mindcrime"

...someone once asked me what kind of music topics could very quickly erupt into an internet flame war; it took me all of a second or two to say: just ask people their opinions of American prog-metal band Queensryche...and step back after you do; wars have begun between countries for lesser reasons...

You know, I was listening to talk radio earlier today - to be specific, the Michael Medved show - and he mentioned something about our GOP Congress that I didn't know, but was pleased to look up and find was true...and that was this: since 1950, only two Speakers of the House have ever presided over a Congress that has cut actual spending levels in Washington - and cut the rate of increase, but cut the actual amounts of federal spending...

...those two Speakers? Massachusetts' Rep. Joe Martin and Ohio Rep. John Boehner. Let that last one marinate for a few hours...we'll wait.

If by the liberty of the press were understood merely the liberty of discussing the propriety of public measures and political opinions, let us have as much of it as you please: But if it means the liberty of affronting, calumniating and defaming one another, I, for my part, own myself willing to part with my share of it, whenever our legislators shall please so to alter the law and shall chearfully consent to exchange my liberty of abusing others for the privilege of not being abused myself. - Benjamin Franklin, An Account of the Supremest Court of Judicature in Pennsylvania, viz. The Court of the Press — 1789

The ingredients which constitute energy in the Executive are, first, unity; secondly, duration; thirdly, an adequate provision for its support; fourthly, competent powers. ... The ingredients which constitute safety in the republican sense are, first, a due dependence on the people, secondly, a due responsibility. - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 70 — 1788

Seared Music: Steve Forbert - "Romeo's Tune"

...heard this song last night and thought to myself, "I know that song from somewhere..." ....after a brief search, now I remember: this was one of the songs I used to love listening to back when I was growing up; its' still one of my favorites these days...

Liberal Double Think...

Founder's Quote, 10 August 2015

It is an unquestionable truth, that the body of the people in every country desire sincerely its prosperity. But it is equally unquestionable that they do not possess the discernment and stability necessary for systematic government. To deny that they are frequently led into the grossest of errors, by misinformation and passion, would be a flattery which their own good sense must despise. - Alexander Hamilton, speech to the Ratifying Convention of New York — 1788
