Democrats Retake Louisiana Statehouse In Gubernatorial Runoff

Did you know there was a gubernatorial runoff tonight down in the Bayou State?
Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards defeated Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) in the Louisiana gubernatorial runoff election Saturday, bringing an end to a rough campaign that saw Vitter fall short after entering as the heavy favorite.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune called the race for Edwards just after 10 p.m. Eastern time Saturday night, a little more than hour after polls closed.
Edwards and Vitter advanced to the runoff after finishing as the top two in the Oct. 24 open primary. In Louisiana’s “jungle primary” system, candidates of all parties run together, with the top two finishers having a runoff if neither one secures 50 percent of the vote. (The Hill)
I'm of two minds here....on the one hand, it sucks to see the Republicans lose a statehouse, especially in a deep-red state like Louisiana. On the other hand, given who the GOP candidate was, I'm not bothered much by tonight's result; David Vitter ranks as one of the most odious elected officials - outside of the SOB currently living at 1600 Pennsylvania - to serve in recent memory and to see him go down flames is a good thing indeed.

House Passes Bill Toughening Entry For Syrian Refugees

Give the House credit for actually doing something in the face of last week's attacks in Paris....
Wanting to show assertiveness in the aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks, the House overwhelmingly passed a bill to block Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the U.S. unless they pass strict background checks.
In a rush before Thanksgiving to comfort nervous constituents back home, Republicans were boosted by the support of 47 Democrats, who provided enough votes to override a promised veto by President Barack Obama.
The legislation, passed by a 289-137 margin, puts pressure on Senate Democrats, whose leader, Rep. Harry Reid, believes his chamber has the votes to block the bill from being considered.
“For us to sit back and say we are being too harsh, I am here to say we have been too soft for too long, and we have emboldened terrorists,” Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., told The Daily Signal. “We are in crisis management now. I don’t want to be on the receiving line where I lost one of my constituents because they weren’t taken care of.” (The Daily Signal)
Think about that margin in the House for a moment....289 to 137. Given how polarized American politics are at present, that's a major black-eye for the Obama Administration....of course, given who leads the Dumbocrats in the Senate, one wonders if this bill will even face a threatened veto from the White House....
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) says a House bill suspending the resettlement of Syrian refugees, slated for action Thursday, will not make it to President Obama’s desk. Reid said at a press conference that Democrats will block the legislation that requires the secretary of Homeland Security to affirm to Congress that every refugee being admitted is not a security threat...“The problem is not with refugees,” Reid said. “I don’t think we’ll be dealing with it over here.” When asked about the prospect of Obama vetoing the legislation, Reid said, “Don’t worry, it won’t get passed. Next question?” (Townhall)
 .....maybe now could we get around the busting the legislative filibuster, Sen. McConnell? At the very least, the response to Reid's words above should be a warning to Dems'....
House Republican leaders expect the bill to receive yes votes from as many as 50 Democrats in the lower chamber. They warned Democrats will pay the price politically next year if they block it. “We’ll crucify them,” said a senior House GOP aide. (Townhall)
....that if they do filibuster this bill and a subsequent terrorist attack were to happen....if it were tied to a Syrian 'refugee', there would be political hell to play.

Following the attacks in Paris this past Friday, the French military bombed numerous targets in Syria....including a command-control center in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa. Question to the dumbasses on the Left: We've been bombing them - supposedly - for months now....why do they still have a freakin' command/control center for the French to bomb?

There's a great article over at the Patriot Post on the Paris attacks and the feckless attitude of the Obama Administration towards America's place in the world - and the resulting power vacuum that came by our withdrawing from the world - and FWIW, Arnold Ahlert hits it square on the head.

I'll go one step further: what we are facing in the West isn't just a fight against violent extremism or against radical Islam....what we are facing in the West is a civilizational war in which there is going to be no middle ground, there no neutrals. Its' a fight that frankly, I don't think Obama & Company have the stomach for because if they actually gave a damn about America, they'd realize their whole strategy towards the Middle East these past 6 years was wrong, it was weak and its' frankly not working; we've thrown long-time allies under the bus, refused to lend even moral support to those seeking freedom and overall shown a weakness that one didn't even think America could show.

Granted, it only lasted an album or thereabouts, but Wilson reminds me a lot of Peter Gabriel...and Gabriel's seemed to have a really good career, don'tcha' think?

Giuliani: ISIS Is Obama's Creation

As much as I disagreed with America going to war in Iraq back in 2003, I can't argue w/Giuliani here; our withdrawal from the country at the end of 2011 led to the rise of ISIS in Iraq & Syria. Nature abhors a geo-political vacuum and this dunderhead of a president effectively threw away the blood, sweat and tears of our servicemembers to satiate his campaign promises. For what it is worth, I would love to see someone say to him in public, "The blood of those victims in Paris is on your hands, sir! J'accuse!"
