Linus's Christmas Speech

(Luke 2:8-14 -  NIV) And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

....and with that, may you, dear readers of Seared Thoughts, have a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season!

If mankind were to resolve to agree in no institution of government, until every part of it had been adjusted to the most exact standard of perfection, society would soon become a general scene of anarchy, and the world a desert. - Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 65 — 1788

Berkeley Logic....

Founder's Quote, 23 Dec. 2015

And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever. - Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 18 — 1781

State Dept. Chides Catholic Cardinal Over Gay Slurs Towards Ambassador

....with all due respect to Cardinal Archbishop Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, fuck you and the papal horse you rode in on...
The State Department weighed in Tuesday on an escalating war of words between the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic and a cardinal who has leveled gay slurs against him -- telling the fight "does underscore" the importance of pushing human rights causes.
U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic James “Wally” Brewster, who is openly gay and married, has been mocked over his sexual orientation by Cardinal Archbishop Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez for more than two years.
It got so heated that earlier this month, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., sent a letter to Pope Francis asking him to intervene in the verbal attacks.
“Even before Ambassador Brewster’s arrival in Santo Domingo in 2013, Cardinal Rodriguez launched a personal attack against him with public statements quoted in the popular press,” Durbin’s letter said. "The Cardinal used the hateful slur ‘faggot,’ which he continues to use to this day."
Durbin added, "In a recent interview Cardinal Rodriguez again described the ambassador as a ‘faggot’ and falsely claimed the ambassador was setting out to promote ‘faggotry’ in the Dominican Republic."
The cardinal reportedly also said Brewster should “focus on housework, since he’s the wife to a man.” (Fox News)
...someone should also remind the aforementioned cardinal that, (a)ambassadors serve at the pleasure of the country they represent and (b)as long as he's doing his damn job, what damn difference does it make whether he's gay or not? FWIW, as much as I like to slag on the Obama Administration, maybe they ought to appoint Amb. Brewster U.S. Ambassador to Vatican City....that'd really frost the Papcy, wouldn't it?

Seared Music: Seven Mary Three - "Water's Edge" much as people want to slag on music from the 90's and 2000's, there were plenty of good in point: this one. Nice guitar sounds, along with a raw, earthy lyrical voice...what's not to like?

Democrats Are Totalitarians...

Don't look at me; read it for yourself....
Donald Trump may talk like a brownshirt, but the Democrats mean business. For those of you keeping track, the Democrats and their allies on the left have now: voted in the Senate to repeal the First Amendment, proposed imprisoning people for holding the wrong views on global warming, sought to prohibit the showing of a film critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton, proposed banning politically unpopular academic research, demanded that funding politically unpopular organizations and causes be made a crime and that the RICO organized-crime statute be used as a weapon against targeted political groups. They have filed felony charges against a Republican governor for vetoing a piece of legislation, engaged in naked political persecutions of members of Congress, and used the IRS and the ATF as weapons against political critics.
... ... ...
On the college campuses, they shout down unpopular ideas or simply forbid nonconforming views from being heard there in the first place. They have declared academic freedom an “outdated concept” and have gone the full Orwell, declaring that freedom is oppressive and that they should not be expected to tolerate ideas that they do not share. They are demanding mandatory ideological indoctrination sessions for nonconforming students. They have violently assaulted students studying in libraries and assaulted student journalists documenting their activities. They have staged dozens of phony hate crimes and sexual assaults as a pretext for persecuting unpopular organizations and people. (National Review via. Gay Patriot)
One of the reasons - among many - as to why I'm no longer a lefty liberal Democrat is that, quite simply, I like to think for myself, speak for myself, decide things for myself, etc.,etc.,...things you can't quite do much of if you're a lefty liberal Democrat.

Founder's Quote, 21 Dec. 2015

While the constitution continues to be read, and its principles known, the states, must, by every rational man, be considered as essential component parts of the union; and therefore the idea of sacrificing the former to the latter is totally inadmissible. - Alexander Hamilton, speech to the New York Ratifying Convention — 1788

The Hills Are Alive...

Waivers Allowing Christian Schools To Discriminate Against LGBT Students Spike In 2015

....remind me again how we in the LGBT community are supposed to tolerate religious liberty again?
Under President Bill Clinton, 10 universities applied. Under President George W. Bush, two schools sent applications. And during the first few years of President Barack Obama’s term, there were none.
But within the past few years, according to records the U.S. Department of Education provided to BuzzFeed News, 60 religious universities have applied for exemptions from a 1972 federal law that bans publicly funded schools from discriminating on the basis of sex in regards to hiring, admissions, and other issues.
Forty-three of those applications were filed this year, and 22 have already been approved. The rest are pending, but no request for an exemption has ever been rejected by this or any previous administration.
Not only are the number of requests for waivers and approvals spiking, schools are now seeking a different type of exemption than under previous administrations. (Buzzfeed)
Interesting, isn't it, that in recent years, as LGBT individuals have become more & more accepted within the broader American society, Christianist schools seeking to continue their ways of discriminating against students based on sexual orientation (while continuing to accept federal tax dollars all the while....hypocrites!) ask the federal government for exemptions under the 1964 Civil Rights Act to continue doing so?

Well, it frankly stinks to high heaven and shouldn't these colleges, if Washington in this instance had any balls, be called out for their hypocrisies? You know, one of these days, the Dept. of Education - a bureaucracy I normally don't care about - ought to tell those bigoted colleges (in the style of this scene from the movie Casino), "You can either take the federal dollars or you can continue to discriminate against LGBT individuals, but you can't do both."

Remember, folks: the struggle for LGBT equality doesn't stop at the courthouse steps or in the halls of power; it continues apace...
