Another day, another Trump rally, another protest-turned-near-riot.....if things are bad now, can anyone imagine what things are going to be like come July 2016?

In regards to last night's primary results: now that the Trump Train looks nigh' unstoppable, are those of us - myself included - who've vowed not to support the Donald in the general election gonna' have egg on our faces?

Open thread, folks...

....note to self: start looking for a mental filter...heck, any mental filter, before I eventually say something I'll regret in the future...

Judging by the various news reports from tonight's State of the Union address....is it just me or is President Obama even more detached from reality than he normally is?

Seared Music: Phuture - "Acid Tracks"

...as I listen to this, I can't help but wonder if, the way the weather's been this week in Western NC, the weather hasn't been on some kind of acid trip itself...

You know, I was listening to talk radio earlier today - to be specific, the Michael Medved show - and he mentioned something about our GOP Congress that I didn't know, but was pleased to look up and find was true...and that was this: since 1950, only two Speakers of the House have ever presided over a Congress that has cut actual spending levels in Washington - and cut the rate of increase, but cut the actual amounts of federal spending...

...those two Speakers? Massachusetts' Rep. Joe Martin and Ohio Rep. John Boehner. Let that last one marinate for a few hours...we'll wait.

To those who believe that the Confederate battle flag is a symbol of heritage, not hate...to those who believe the South was right to secede back in 1860-1861....all I can say is this:
...that is all.

-Random Thought #1: As much as I admire Dr. Ben Carson for the work he's done over the years in the field of neurosurgery, after reading his recent remarks on whether being gay is a choice - news flash to the troglodytes: it ain't - I've come to the conclusion that he's a total douchebag...

-Random Thought #2: There will be a 20th season of Major League Soccer as both the league and the MLS Players' Union have come to terms over a new collective bargaining agreement...now, if they'd just have promotion-and-relegation, I'd be happy, but I'll take a 20th season over it anyday...

-Random Thought #3: After the seemingly topsy-turvy patch of weather we've had in Western NC over the past few weeks, I'll gladly take a mid-summer stretch of weather any day of the week...

Random Thought, 24 Nov. 2014

As I watched the news concerning the St. Louis Co. Grand Jury's decision not to indict Ofc. Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, it sounded as though that grand jury looked at every bit of evidence brought before it - and if St. Louis Co. DA Robert McCulloch was correct, then they essentially put all of the evidence before that jury, then how could there've been any other decision reached?

While I - along with most all Americans - sympathize with the Brown family over the loss of their son, my initial view is that the grand jury made the right decision...a painful decision, to be sure, but the right decision. We are a nation of laws, and as the prosecutor said in his statement (paraphrased), if the law is mistaken, we should work to change it.
